Found Poem

Friendship

its loyalty and trust
never lying always truthful
its not a power
but a bond

its caring and sacrifice
never mean always caring
its not temporary
but forever

I really like this book so far, I think the beginning of the book is really funny when the bank is getting robbed and they are all talking about how Marv's car is junk while the robber is threatening to kill them, then I also like how Ed's personality switches so quickly, he calls himself a deadbeat lonely cabdriver but then he is given these addresses which he has no clue about but decides to go to them and he becomes heroes in other peoples eyes even when he thinks he is worthless.

One of the most important parts of this book so far is when Ed pretends to be Milla's husband Jimmy. "Now piss off, Ed, I think as I walk out. It's what she was thinking, I'm sure. I like being Jimmy". This shows real character of Ed Jimmy died sixty years ago and Ed came along pretending to be Jimmy so Milla wouldn't be lonely when he says he likes being Jimmy its because his mother treats him with no respect at home but when he is with Milla he is getting the sense of what it is to feel loved which his mom doesn't give him.

Ed reminds me in someways of Sydney carton from A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney believes himself to be a lonely, worthless person but he ends up saving the lives of the people he cares about most and gives his life a purpose. This reminds me of Ed because ed also thinks of himself as his life not really having a purpose and he is boring but then he is given an opportunity to show that his life has  purpose and go to these addresses to help people and give ed a purpose in his life.

This book is also very comical. I like when Marv is speaking because so far in the book especially in the beginning he is very funny. I like how when people talk about his junk car he gets really mad, even though it stopped the robber from the bank from getting away since it wouldn't start. Lastly, how the Dog is called Doorman.

I cant wait to keep reading this book because it is a fun book to read and easy to picture the events happening in your head.

Charles Darnay

Charles Darnay's character can be described as being well-kept honest and caring throughout book 2.   First, Darnay says " my present name though but slightly changed from my mothers, is not, as you will remember, my own. I wish to tell you what that is, and why I am in England. "  in this quote is talking to Dr. Manette about how his last name differs from his mothers last  name because his other last name has a bad background and he wants to be honest with Dr. Manette before St. Luci and he wants to be honest with Dr. Manette before  asking Lucy to marry him him.  Another quote that Darnay says is "  I knew that when she is clinging to you, the hands of a baby, girl and woman, all in one, around your neck. I know that and loving you she sees and loves her mother and her own age, loves you at my age, loves her mother brokenhearted, loves you for your dreadful trial  in your blessed restoration ."  This shows that he is a caring person and realizes that Dr. Mannette  and Lucie mother are very important to Lucie.  The last quote that Dickens says is  "Was a young man of about five and 20, well groomed and well looking, with a sunburn cheek and a dark I. His condition was that every young gentleman. He was finally dressed in just was a young man of about five and 20, well groomed and well looking, with a sunburnt cheek and a dark Eye. His condition was that of a young gentleman. He was plainly dressed in black, or very dark gray, and his hair, which is long and dark, was gathered in the ribbon at the back of his neck."  This quote explains that he is a well-kept well-dressed gentlemen and that he is not  A descendent of a poor family and it said he was a  "young gentleman"  which means he was probably very polite and caring.  Charles Darnay is described as a well-kept young gentleman and a caring and honest person so far in the book .

Light and dark

In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens uses Light and Dark to set the shifting tone of hopeless or scared to loving in their relationship. " his cold white head mingled with her radiant hair, which warmed and lighted it as though it was the light of freedom shining on him. " (Dickens 34) This quote of Light shows that Lucie is his light, because it says " it was the light of freedom shining on him..." which says she is the reason he will be recalled to life and will have 'freedom'. "He had put up a hand between his eyes and the light, and the very bones of it seemed transparent." (Dickens 30)This shows that he had been locked up so long that when he went to block the light his hand seemed transparent and not there because he had withered away from being in prison for so long. "As the darkness closed in, the daughter laid hr head down on the hard ground close at her father's side, and watched him. The darkness deepened and deepened as they both lay quiet."(Dickens 36) This quote about Darkness shows their relationship because she was so focused on him, and the were both quiet, she was close him showing a little of that loving tone. " and her hair drooping over him curtained him from the light." (Dickens 35) This quote about Light shows their loving tone because she had her hair drooped over shielding him from the Light or the outside world which he could be scared of since the world can change a lot in 18 years. As you can see Dr. Manette has changed a lot during his time in prison and he has never really had a relationship with his daughter, Dickens gives us a sense of their relationship by using Light and Dark to represent the hopelessness to loving tone.

IMG_3360.jpg
In Chapter 5 of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles dickens there is a big wine spill from a large cask in front of a wine shop. Everyone around would do everything that they could to get the wine. Some would use handkerchiefs from other women's heads, some would use cups and even cup their hands to drink it. Since it was red wine it stained people's clothing, hands, and all on the streets. Dickens says “those who had been greedy with the staves of the cask, had acquired a tigerish smear about the mouth; and one tall Joker so does merge those who had been greedy with the staves of the cask, had acquired a tigerish smear about the mouth; and one tall joker besmirched, His head more out a long squalid bag of a nightcap than in it, scrawled upon a wall with his fingers dipped in muddy wineless- BLOOD”(Dickens 22-23). This quote could show foreshadowing for later events because since all of the red wine was stained over everyone and everywhere this could resemble a war or fight of some kind. In the quote it mentions blood, which is red and wine is red so that also shows a resemblance.

Importance Of Family

Importance Of Family

Family to me is people in a group that is together at all times and will never treat you differently. Family is really important to me because people in my family have gone through rough times. For example, when my sister didn’t feel good we got her the help she needed to feel better. Everyone in a family we be there for you no matter what. In “ A Tree Grows In Brooklyn” they talk a lot about family , one of the things that Francie said about family that was important was “My brother is next. His arm is just as dirty as mine so don’t be surprised “. And you don’t have to tell him. You told me. This a really important event in the book because even though Francie is poor doesn’t mean she couldn’t understand what the doctors were saying and calling them dirty, even though the nurse knew how they felt. When Francie said this it showed that they were a great family because she stuck up for her little brother after she was just made fun of. Another quote from the novel is when the author stated “ Katie would make [Neeley] into the kind of man Johnny should have been “. This relates to family because even though Johnny was not the best role model he tried. Katie wanted Neeley to be what Johnny should have been or better which shows signs of a good family because they care for one another.

Now onto “Stone Soup”. Stone Soup was a novel all about the different types of families, and it said that there were no perfect families. Barbara Kingsolver wrote “To judge a family's value by its tidy symmetry is to purchase a book for its cover “ This is really important to a family because you can’t judge a family by there looks just like you can’t judge a book by its cover. A family is a lot more than just how they look. The last quote from Stone Soup that I found was when Barbara Kingsolver said “ I knit my days around my daughter’s survival and happiness ”. This Is a great example of Barbara Kingsolver explaining what family is, because all she cares about is keeping her daughter alive and happy which is crucial to a great family. “ A Tree Grows In Brooklyn “ and “ Stone Soup “ both show great examples on what having a good family is compared to having a bad family is. A great family would do anything while a not so good family wouldn’t care as much. Lastly, a family a great family will be welcome to change, everybody connects with each other, and has a bond that will never be broken. To me family is the most important thing in life.

Sacredness Of The Ordinary

Sacredness Of The Ordinary

This picture may look like an ordinary picture of two brothers on the beach, however, it is much more than that.  It shows how connected we are.  It also shows how similar we are even though we are six years apart. It brings back a lot of memories of when we were younger.  We have a connection like no other. Our connection is similar to that of twins.  We both share the same love of basketball.  We share the same love of surfing our favorite beach every summer.  In the picture it shows how much fun we have at the beach.  It represents such a special place to us. And a place where we got to grow up together. I always looked forward to basketball season to watch him play, because he was such an inspiration to why I play basketball.
This year is a turning point for us. I am looking forward to him getting to see me play.  I only hope I can surprise him with following in his footsteps.  They are big shoes to fill.  I only hope I can make his as proud of me as I alway have been of him.  During his sophomore year, he had two knee surgeries, that really worried me.  He had a condition which gave him severe fractures in his knee cap.  The doctors had to put screws in his knee to piece it back together. I was really worried for him.  I was not sure if he would ever play the game of basketball again, a game in which we both love.  Then came another blow,  the doctors found the same condition in his other knee, he had to have surgery again, to prevent a catastrophic injury that could potentially leave him with a limp.   Luckily, after lots of physical therapy and rehabilitation, he slowly got back to the game. And I was able to see him play incredibly in his junior and senior year in high school.  When he left for college, it was a tough time.  I no longer got to see him everyday.  The void I felt was irreplaceable.  However, now I look forward to when he comes home.  And to summers with him and our family. We have a basketball court in our backyard.  When I am practicing outside, I picture him out there next to me, guiding me, giving me advice, like he does when he is really next to me. When he left for college I was not able to interact with him like I used to.  He was busy getting adjusted to school and I had to rely on phone calls and texts messages.  When I look at pictures of our favorite times I am conflicted between great memories and sadness of not having as much time with him as I always did. Whenever I see us together I am reminded of all the great memories we share.
